As I Lay Dying stopped off in Birmingham, Alabama on January 20, 2008 while headlining a tour with August Burns Red, Evergreen Terrace and Still Remains.
BandRescue.com's own Troy Deezy interviewed the band on their bus before the show. The interview was a blast. Troy taught Tim Lambesis and Jordan Mancino a card trick. After we finished our interview, Jordan showed us a card trick.
During the interview it became evident just how humble these guys are even after the success they have enjoyed as a result of their hard work.{mosimage}
When I say hard work, I want to relay to you that this was without a doubt one of the best live performances I've ever seen from a band. As I Lay Dying sounds as good live as they do on their CD. It would seem impossible to hear such perfection while they move non-stop, but it was real and BandRescue.com was there to witness it along with most of the South!
One of my favorite parts of the interview is where Troy Deezy, tells Tim & Jordan how he was introduced to AILD. A friend of Troy's basically brought the CD to Troy and asked if he had ever heard of the band and proceeded to play "94 Hours". In our interview, Troy tells Tim and Jordan how that song made him a fan and the band became an influence from then on. {mosimage}
Troy then asked Tim and Jordan what it felt like to be someones influence. The sincerity to Tim's reply is what will stay with me forever. He was genuinely honored and there wasn't a person in the back of the bus that didn't know he really meant what he said. That my friends, is impressive. Josh Gilbert, the bands current bassist is from Birmingham, so many fans came out to support their friend.
As I Lay Dying's latest release, An Ocean Between Us, on Metalblade Records peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and it hit number 1 on the Top Rock chart. The band performed at With Full Force, Sounds of the Underground, Warped Tour, and Taste of Chaos.
Also in 2007, As I Lay Dying won the "Ultimate Metal God" award from MTV2 at the first annual "All That Rocks" special, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for the song "Nothing Left".
BandRescue.com would like to thank Tim Lambesis and Jordan Mancino of As I Lay Dying for the interview. We would also like to thank Leo and Jen at Big Machine Media along with Kelly and Vince at Metalblade Records for making this interview possible. Finally, we thank Kevin Puig, the bands tour manager for his kindness the day of the show.The following is our two part interview with Tim Lambesis and Jordan Mancino. The footage was filmed and edited by Jon of Scooter Johnson Productions . We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
